Farley is a successful 34 year-old defense attorney who attempts to maintain control over the world he thought he could mold and sculpt unto his liken. In fact, his quest for success has caused him to lose sight of the important things in life, such as family, friends, and more importantly love, which can never be controlled. In reality, he was really molding himself into the aberration that society had fabricated before him that furthered his misconception of control. The story takes place in Maribell, Texas during a hot and humid summer. Farley is a young man who has left behind his family and his past in order to pursue his future goals. However, as he pursues his dreams, he begins to re-invent himself in which he attempts to become someone that he is not nor was he ever meant to be. However, Farley meets a beautiful sassy blues singer, Sweet Candy Miller, who walks into his life unexpectedly. She causes Farley to re-examine himself and his ideas that propels him to face his past and to come to terms with himself, which can be a terrifying experience. During Farley's self-examination, he is suddenly pulled into a mysterious place where he not only reflects upon his past, but confronts it. He learns that he was never in control, but he had only created a delusion from within. And now he understands that life is a journey that cannot be taken for granted, for the world is a place of uncontrollable circumstances.
