His many publications on social mobility and on life stories include Destins Personnels et Struture de Classe and Biography and Society. Contributor Bio:  Thompson, Paul Paul Thompson is research professor in sociology at the University of Essex and a fellow at the Institute of Community Studies, London. He is founder-editor of Oral History, and founder of the National Life Story Collection, British Library National Sound Archive. His previous publications include The Voice of the Past and The Edwardians.
