A classic of World War I-era "experimental" education by the Columbia University Professor and philosopher, written in collaboration with his daughter -hailed at its publication in 1915 as "the most significant and informing study of educational conditions that has appeared in twenty years." The final chapter, "Democracy and Education," presaged Dewey's famous book of that name which appeared the following year.
