Two lines; Jacob Amick Sr. and John the Miller Amick lines settled on Sewell Mountain and descend from old Henry Amick who fought in the Revolutionary War. Two lines descend from Nicholas Emmick, old Henry Amick's cousin, who also fought in the revolutionary war. One line was John Nicholas Amick son of Nicholas Emmick and his first wife Catherine Hertzel and he settled on Sewell Mountain; the other line descends from Nicholas Emmick and his second wife Susanna Smith and they settled out in Kentucky. Although the family name has various spellings early on; the families in West Virginia spelled it Amick while the Kentucky families spelled it Emmick.
