In a period of consistent conflict, military leaders must have the ability to extend their influence beyond the military rank and file structure in order to operate effectively in politically and culturally charged operational environments. This monograph explores how military leaders must understand when to minimize the use of their perceived legitimate (position) power and rely more heavily upon other "softer" sources of power or influence tactics.
