The celebrated Victorian narrative painter William Powell Frith (1819–1909) published his popular two-volume autobiography in 1887, adding a third volume in 1888. Volume 2 discusses Frith's Hogarthian subjects, the story behind his famous portrait of Dickens, and his last great panorama, A Private View at the Royal Academy (1883).
