It is Written: Praying the Psalms of Protection is a 30-Day personalized, scripture prayer devotional, designed to help the reader pray for protection and deliverance using some of the psalms that David prayed with when faced with danger, fear and persecution. Building on the example of Jesus Christ who quoted and clarified Scripture in response to satan's temptations in the desert, it takes into consideration that the psalms were written under a Mosaic law that allowed for revenge and curses on one's enemies, whereas Christ has requested that we pray for and bless our enemies, something that is not always easy to do. Selected psalms that cry for protection and deliverance are thus formatted into personalized prayers from the perspective of a Christian faith that leaves vengeance to God; invokes the name of Jesus for efficacy, and leans on His grace to pray for adversaries. Readers can be confident that they are using prayers based on the Covenant of Laws in a manner that is consistent with the Covenant of Grace mediated by Christ. Furthermore, we know that the world is becoming an increasingly dangerous place and prayers for the safe-keeping of our souls, our bodies, our loved ones, and Christ's Church cannot be over-emphasized. This book hinges on the belief that God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. Given the uncommon favor that God repeatedly showed the Psalmist, protecting and delivering him from multiple adversarial situations; one could deduce that it is a good idea to use tried and tested prayers that found favor with God, as a foundation or supporting fact for one's pleas at the Throne of Grace. The God of David is also our Father, and we have the additional privilege that David did not have; His Son, Jesus Christ, interceding for us at the Father's right hand. This is a book that will inspire you to begin praying with scripture if you are not doing so, and encourage you to be more expansive with the way you pray with scripture if you are already doing so.
