Christopher Mason is the man who pioneered criminal profiling for the FBI and is the author of The Darkest Minds, the seminal work on the subject. He retires to a small farm to forget his past, but his world is shattered when his neighbors are found dead, brutally murdered by a serial killer. He begins receiving recorded messages and e-mails taunting him and ridiculing his abilities as a profiler. Soon, people close to Mason begin to disappear and several agents guarding his house are found dead. Unable to profile the man or find any clues, he finds himself falling into a dark depression and is paralyzed with fear as he battles a man who is threatening to kill his entire family, a man who has proclaimed himself to be the darkest mind!
