As a foster mother for many years, I needed to talk to my 'tween' daughter about cleanliness and sanitation matters without hurting her feelings. Like many kids in the system, she had not had a special talk about her body and how to care for herself, so I wrote down the things I needed to say to her in a text message! At the time, I was a middle school teacher who didn't dare use the girls' bathroom because it was always filthy because either they didn't care about it or hadn't been trained properly. My child is now a grown woman, with a son...and she kept my text message and sent it to me a couple of months ago to let me know that she kept all of the important life lessons that I wrote for her!
