A miscellany of poems capturing Sheffield people. Of mixed Welsh, Irish and Silesian origin, Editha Morris was born in Derby in 1916; she had two sons: Adrian and Paul. She started working as a beautician when the family moved to Sheffeld in 1947; the family then lived successively in Broomhill, Crosspool and Fullwood (that area known as Hallam - Sheffield West). She continued working as a beautician and also teaching elocution, having obtained higher qualifications in both domains in London. Amongst other things she was a member of the Hallamshire singers. She later discovered her talent for poetry, these poems having been written between 1986 and 1988. Although very well spoken herself, she shows, in her poems, a talent for understanding and putting into words the way local Sheffield people speak.

A report in the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph, 10th January 1940 tells us: `GOLD MEDAL ELOCUTION SUCCESS: At the recent examination of the London Incorporated Academy of Music Edith Lucas was successful in passing the gold medal examination with 106 marks.'
