The Weight of Love Gawain Barker

Tough, authentic and drenched in sunshine noir style, The Weight of Love is a white-knuckle thrill-ride through an untold time and place - the wild tropical north of Queensland, Australia in the 1970s & 80s. It's a world of epic natural beauty, absolute personal freedoms - and some very dangerous people.
Seth Kelly's got a bit of history.
A private investigator in small town tropical Cairns, he's left the security work and dope-growing behind. But when an old friend is jailed, Seth gets pulled back into a dangerous world he'd rather forget.
Getting hard-case crims to turn witness against two of the most evil bastards in the far north isn't easy, but it's the rock-star guitarist he'd being paid handsomely to baby-sit that's really doing his head in.
With heavy boys on both sides of the law unwilling to let his reputation die, Seth must keep his cool -and temptation at bay. All he wants is to spring a mate from prison, make a few dollars - and hear a classic song get written in his house.
From the coral reefs, misty highlands, and dry gemstone and marijuana country, to rock'n'roll pubs and parties, five-star restaurants and remote beaches, Seth's past forces him back into the underguts of the smalltown port of Cairns.
Doing the right thing will get him put in the ground.
The Weight of Love is the second book in The Colour of Shadows trilogy.
