Divine Foreknowledge and Moral Responsibility Richard H. Corrigan
Divine Foreknowledge and Moral Responsibility
Richard H. Corrigan
This book is an investigation into the compatibility of perfect divine foreknowledge and morally responsible agency. Corrigan surveys the recent literature on the subject, clearly outlining the positions of the most influential philosophers and theologians, attempting to find the most comprehensive and defensible thesis. He places particular emphasis on the various accounts offered by theological fatalists, Ockhamists and Molinists. In the course of his investigation, he also considers what capacities are essential for moral responsibility, the apparent conflict between God's essential attributes and the power to do otherwise, and the many compatibilist theses that have been offered to uphold the idea that we have significant free will, even if we accept the reality of divine omniscience. Corrigan offers his own unique insights and provides cogent arguments for why any of the different forms of compatibilism are incapable of resolving the issue.
