On the outskirts of town, on a deserted construction site, the partially buried body of a young woman is discovered. Though left for dead, she rests in a comatose state. The unlikely detective team of Sydney Holden and Bill Cosgrove are assigned to the case. Sydney is a third generation police officer. As she lay in a coma, her future uncertain, the detectives hit one dead-end after another until Sydney decides that it is time to find Cassandra's estranged family and dig into the past that she worked so hard to bury. Against her better judgment, Sydney allows Zach to accompany her on her cross-country investigation.
