Here is the reference for all architects to turn to in order to put into context the various attempts being made to design in green ways. Green Shift presents the continuity of thought and action in architecture, of which green design is the latest manifestation. It illustrates how the architecture of the industrial period reflects the fundamental changes in the way we have come to see nature.



This second edition of has been expanded from John Farmer's own material and updated. New material has been added on Lethaby and Aalto. There is also a new chapter, on Sweden, entitled 'Sun, sky and trees,' suggested by Farmer's own notes. The last chapter has been completely expanded, and looks at the variety of green directions being pursued at present. They also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the options available, as well as what green architecture looks and feels like to live in compared to the modern and other buildings of the present and past.
