Cloudy Hands Peter Trenouth
Cloudy Hands
Peter Trenouth
It is 2007. Stephen's wife died six months ago. His grown daughter and son live far away. A recently retired teacher, Stephen tries to stay busy. Keeping active in his local Episcopal parish saves him from despair, as do his loves for poetry, jazz, and old movies. The rector of his church, Diane, urges him to write about the poetry of George Herbert, an Anglican priest who lived in the seventeenth century. Stephen follows Diane's advice. His closest friend, Jerry, pushes him towards new romance. Stephen hesitates until he's drawn to a younger woman who learned brokenness and restoration in places he can barely perceive. She teaches Tai Chi. Together they confront their pasts while challenging a present burdened with uncertainty and a struggle for social justice that erupts when a figure from Jerry's troubled past returns and bitter controversy threatens Diane.
