This is a heart warming story that highlights God, Country, Family, Friendship, and Community. New Dublin was founded by Irish Catholic immigrants in the late 1800's. The three O'Malley brothers were members of the first generation. William O'Malley was the pastor of the newly founded St. Patrick Church. James O'Malley eventually became Bishop. Lawrence "Pop" O'Malley owned the local grocery store. Prior to World War II, a military aircraft manufacturing plant was constructed in New Dublin. Sam Jenkins and his mother moved to New Dublin so that she could find employment. Sam became an orphan at the age twelve. His father was a B-17 pilot and killed in action when his plane was shot down over France. His mother died in a freak accident at the plant. Pop and his two brothers took on the responsibility of raising young Sam. Sam and his two best friends, Theresa and Johnny, were always in mischief trouble while growing up. Upon reaching adulthood, Sam became the Pastor of St. Patrick Parish. Theresa and Johnny married and hand triplets. Their sons became All-Star football players for Notre Dame. One chapter memorializes the real life Medal of Honor recipient, Chaplain Father Vincent Capodanno and his heroic actions in Vietnam.
