George Washington Newton had fought in the American Civil War through all the engagements of the 38th Regiment, ending at Appomattox. After the war, he became infatuated with the remote area of Indian Territory in Oklahoma and was inspired by the vast prairie and its' beauty, as well as the challenges associated with living close to the Indians. This book celebrates his dream of coming to the western wilderness and how his drive and determination provided a legacy for his family.
