Contributor Bio:  Valdez, Fred, Jr Fred Valdez, Jr., is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin. He coordinates multidisciplinary research in northwestern Belize as Director of the Programme for Belize Archaeological Project.
