It is 1899. Jack has a 'way' with horses. He can heal them, he can bring out the best in them. When Jack stumbles upon a family being badly treated by a violent father he can't just do nothing, can he? Even when helping this family will see him branded as a criminal and on the run with four stolen children. What of the promise Jack made to Sarah? A promise he means to keep ... somehow. Can his affinity with horses provide the way to keep the promise he made to Sarah? Jack's sister Emily, meanwhile, finds herself mixed up in Jack's troubles and fears that someone else she loves may suffer becacuse of it, but with four children needing help what is she to do? Can they shield the children from the clutches of their father long enough to make a new life? When the long arm of the law threatens and the evil father becomes a threat not only to Jack but to Emily as well, things take a turn that no-one expected as the story hurtles towards its exciting climax.
