Cypress Adner lives a life riddled with bad luck from horrible bosses to a deceased parent to a little brother dying from cancer. But when she meets the Dodson's she thinks her luck has changed, that maybe some good will come her way and perhaps it will but that doesn't mean bad luck doesn't exist anymore. Grey Brown has never really lived at all. He's been invisible his whole life careful to not be seen. He was content with his way of life until a certain act of kindness changes the way he sees the world and the people in it. Finally, he wants to be seen, he wants to know how it is to be kind and that's how he meets Cypress. Their lives intercept at just the right moment when one is in need and the other is in the mood for giving. But, Colin Hunt, the harshest form of bad luck, isn't in need and he isn't in the mood for giving, he's in the mood for taking. Taking anything he feels is going to give him satisfaction, a skill he has mastered in his lifetime.
