Matt Grootegoed (born May 6, 1982 in Huntington Beach, California) is a professional gridiron football linebacker who is currently a free agent. He was signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Southern California. Grootegoed has also played for the Calgary Stampeders. Grootegoed attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, with Matt Leinart. He was named to the 1999 USA Today All-USA first team. He won three CIF championships while attending Mater Dei.
